As part of a joint project, the phases of the biogas process are separated in two coupled laboratory reactors. This approach can contribute to the flexibilisation of the biogas and thus providing electricity and heat in dependence with the demand. Furthermore, the conditions in the reactors can be optimally adapted to the microorganisms in the respective phase, which should increase the overall biogas yield.
Design of bioreactor experiments
Investigation of the process conditions in both stirred tank reactors regarding pH, acid formation, gas formation rate and content, substrate conversion rate etc.
Physiological investigation of the microbial consortium
Implementation of measure and control techniques for the differentiation of phases in the stirred tank reactors
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in the field of biotechnology or process engineering with the focus on microbiology and engineering
proven good knowlegde in bioprocess engineering related to anaerobic bioreactor cultivations, in microbial metabolic pathways, in basic analytical methods for the determination of primary and secondary metabolite concentrations, in the design of experiments and the presentation of scientific results
good language skills in English and German
with the willingness to actively participate in scientific events
ideally with experience in program designs for process centrol and device integration (LabView, Origin, Matlab)
