The DFG-funded project "Analysis of maximum a posteriori estimators: Common convergence theories for Bayesian and variational inverse problems" aims to advance the state of the art in rigorous mathematical understanding of MAP estimators in infinite-dimensional statistical inverse problems. As part of this project, a postdoctoral researcher is sought for a position to last two years.

Research assistant (postdoc) (m/f/d)

Working field:

The postdoctoral researcher will conduct mathematical research into the definition and analysis of MAP estimators in infinite-dimensional spaces, in the spirit of the "small balls" approach pioneered by Dashti, Law, Stuart, and Voss. The aim is to develop a mathematical structure that links the convergence theory for MAP estimators to the fully Bayesian approach.

Requirements:

Requirements:

Doctorate in mathematics or statistics

Desirable:
Readiness for mathematical research at the interface of measure theory and variational calculus. It is desirable that the candidate's PhD topic be closely related to Bayesian non-parametric statistics, inverse problems, or the calculus of variations. Programming skills are not essential but advantageous, and will open up additional research directions within the project.

How to apply:

Applications for this position are to Electronic applications are to be in the form of one PDF file.

All Application (including a cover letter, a full scientific CV, a research statement, and the contact details of two professional referees) quoting the reference code should be directed preferably electronically in one PDF-file to Prof. Dr. Tim Sullivan: t.j.sullivan@fu-berlin.de or postal to
