Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty IV - Institute of Software Engineering and Theoretical Computer Science / Database Systems and Information
Research Assistant (PostDoc) - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen
under the reserve that funds are granted - part-time employment may be possible
The Database Systems and Information Management (DIMA) Group at TU Berlin is currently seeking to hire a Research Associate (PostDoc) to conduct research and development in the area of scalable data infrastructures. Currently, we are designing an open asset-centric ecosystem based on a recently published vision paper, available here: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1909.03026.pdf.
The ecosystem would enable the public to publish, access, and combine all types of data-related assets, including diverse data sources (e.g., sensor data streams), algorithms (e.g., for machine learning), systems (e.g., that are streaming-based), and pipelines (e.g., combining data cleaning, feature extraction, and classification, to transform raw data into labeled events), among others. The initial task will be to design and build the operations manager (OM), which is at the core of the data ecosystem and based on the abovementioned vision paper. Several research challenges to be addressed, include automating optimization, determining execution environments, tracking the usage of assets, and enabling scalable execution under elasticity, privacy, and security constraints. We encourage applications from highly motivated candidates who wish to contribute to the development of a novel data processing system for scalable data infrastructures.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and PhD in computer science with a focus on data management, distributed systems, or scalable data analysis. You should be interested in working in a leading research field, developing a novel system, and conducting research in real-world application settings. Knowledge on one or more of the following areas is highly desired: scalable and reliable systems operation, data processing, distributed systems, and parallel computing. Candidates must have strong programming skills (preferably, Java or C++) and good communication skills in English.
How to apply:
Please send your written application with the reference number and the usual documents (in particular cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and reference letters) to Technische Universität Berlin - Der Präsident - Fakultät IV, Institut für Softwaretechnik und Theoretische Informatik, FG Datenbanksysteme und Informationsmanagement (DIMA), Prof. Dr. Markl, Sekr. E-N 7, Einsteinufer 17, 10587 Berlin or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
To ensure equal opportunities between women and men, applications by women with the required qualifications are explicitly desired. Qualified individuals with disabilities will be favored. The TU Berlin values the diversity of its members and is committed to the goals of equal opportunities.
